Singing star Wagner Fiuza-Carrilho, better known to the public as Wagner from The X Factor, is set to open a Vinci Hair Clinic franchise in his native Brazil. The charismatic performer is also considering plans to enter Brazil’s versions of the reality tv shows Big Brother and The Voice.
The singer attributes much of his success to two pivotal events in his life, his appearance on X Factor in 2010 and his hair transplant surgery in 2013. Read on to learn how these have shaped his career ever since!
X Factor Breakthrough
Wagner captured the imagination of the UK public when he appeared on The X Factor in 2010. He made it through to the quarter-finals of the competition, winning the hearts of the UK audience and the attention of the media in the process. Matt Cardle may have been the eventual winner of the show that year, but it was Wagner and One Direction who grabbed the headlines.
His success on the show meant that Wagner was kept busy in the years that followed. His life was a constant round of gigs and personal appearances, and his image was everywhere. That media exposure made it hard for him to ignore the fact that he was losing his hair. His shoulder-length locks had always been his distinguishing feature, but now they were showing signs of thinning. As Wagner noted: “I had a bit of hair here, gaps everywhere and a huge hole at the back of my head.”
Hair Transplant Surgery
The singer decided that he needed to take action, and in 2013 he chose Vinci Hair Clinic as the place to have a Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplant. The initial surgery he had done concentrated on his hairline, but follow-up work a few months later restored the hair on his crown. He was genuinely delighted with the outcome.
The hair transplant changed Wagner’s life in two ways. In the first place, it transformed his appearance and his self-confidence. The latter is crucial if you’re someone who makes their living under the spotlight. Describing it as “one of the best things I have ever done”, Wagner points out that his hair surgery has stood the test of time. “I haven’t lost any hair from my head since I had it done. I lose more from my beard.”
New Challenge
The second way in which the transplant changed Wagner’s life was that it brought him into contact with Vinci’s founder and Chief Executive Officer, Salvar Björnsson. The two men struck up a friendship which continues to this day. Now, that friendship has led to a business opportunity and a new challenge for Wagner. He has returned to his hometown in Brazil to open a Vinci Hair Clinic franchise.
He certainly seems up for the challenge. “It is great to be back in my country. I feel like I am falling in love with it like never before. I came back here to open a Vinci Hair Clinic franchise in João Pessoa, the place I was born. I am living proof that hair transplants work. I had mine nine years ago and I haven’t lost anything.”
Family Ties
UK fans of the singer may fear that they have lost Wagner to his native Brazil, but he has been quick to reassure them that he will return to England. His partner Lydia, daughter Lillian and son Leon still live in the UK.
“I don’t know how long I will be here. I’m here for now as I need to set up the hair clinic, but I have a family back in England. I love Lydia and my children and will only be a flight away. I am doing this for their future.”
Nor has he given up on his show business ambitions. While he’s in Brazil, Wagner is looking to the future and considering applying for slots on the reality tv shows Big Brother Brazil and also considering The Voice Brazil. It’s easy to understand the appeal these shows have for him, given how his life was transformed by his appearances on The X Factor. As he explains: “X Factor transformed my life. Since the show, I have been booked regularly for gigs. It has given me a full-time music career. I have only good things to say about it.”
