The visible hair appears tightly coiled \u2014 but the follicle below is what matters, and it is curved in a way the standard FUE punch does not anticipate.<\/p>\n<p>If extracted using a Type-1 technique, the surgeon will either transect the follicle (cutting through the hair shaft below the surface and damaging the graft) or fail to retrieve the follicle in one piece. Either way, graft survival drops.<\/p>\n<p>The specialist approach uses a wider punch (1.0\u20131.1mm vs the standard 0.8\u20130.9mm), a shallower angle of insertion, and slower dissection \u2014 often with magnification.
